[ SLEEP APNEA APPLIANCE ]
Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. Untreated sleep apnea can contribute to elevated blood pressure, cardiac disease, and even death. The symptoms of sleep apnea include snoring and feeling fatigued upon awakening.
Treatments for sleep apnea may involve surgery or wearing a face mask attached to a CPAP machine while sleeping. Unfortunately, many patients do not tolerate the mask and have great difficulty sleeping. However, many cases of sleep apnea are caused by airway obstruction and can be treated without surgery or a CPAP machine.
Dr. Son may be able to provide you with a custom sleep apnea appliance. Wearing this appliance while sleeping will gently advance your lower jaw, opening up your airway for freer breathing.
